The Wolf Pack Is Back
The team during “Suffer Fest” in the Truckee River
The Wolf Pack is officially back on campus, and the 2026–27 season is underway. With classes and dryland training beginning, Head Coach Cameron Smith shares an update on how the team started the school year — with a little grit.
An Update From Coach Cam
Over Labor Day weekend, the team headed to the University’s Lake Tahoe campus in Incline Village for our first Nevada Grit Camp, led by former two-time Olympian and World Championship bronze medalist Doug Lewis.
“Nevada Grit” is our motto at Nevada Skiing, and Doug lives and breathes it, making him a perfect fit to lead the team through a weekend built around pushing limits, working together, and setting the tone for the season ahead.
The weekend started Friday afternoon in Reno with 150 burpees and a mini “Death Mile” before our annual Nevada Grit Time Trial — a run from Rancho San Rafael Park up to the “N”. Another 50 burpees followed the time trial to finish off the work for day one. The team then packed up and headed to Incline to swim at Sand Harbor and enjoy a dinner together on campus.

Saturday brought 50 more burpees, a mountain leg routine workout, and sprint intervals at Alpine Meadows. After lunch the team headed to the Truckee River for another workout aptly named “Suffer Fest.” In the water, the athletes worked through 100 push-ups, 100 shoulder presses, 100 squats, core work, sprints, tuck holds and of course, more burpees. The day wrapped up back in Incline with some evening agility and a team soccer game on the town green.
Sunday started well before sunrise, with a 5 a.m. hike climbing 2,200 vertical feet, followed by a beach workout with sprints, agility, and the final rounds of burpees.
By the end of the weekend, the team had completed 400 burpees! The Nevada Grit camp was about more than the workouts; between each challenge, the athletes took part in team-building activities, mental skills sessions and games, with partner yoga and some final team bonding closing out the weekend.
For a group just coming back together on campus, it was a chance to get uncomfortable, learn about one another and start building the toughness and camaraderie they’ll need when the season gets underway.

The timing made for quite an introduction to Nevada for our newest and final recruit, Elisa Eder of Austria. Elisa arrived in Reno just in time for the start of the school year, and after a long trip from Austria, was almost immediately thrown into Nevada Grit with her new teammates.
Elisa rounds out this year’s incoming class and officially completes the 2026–27 Wolf Pack roster.

"I’m extremely excited to join the Nevada Wolf Pack. The top training facilities, great team culture and the support from the university and coaches allow me to combine my education and skiing. I can’t wait to race in silver and blue with the team." - Elisa Eder
Welcome to Nevada, Elisa! Gemma!
